Pulp & Beyond is full of innovation and artificial intelligence

The international Pulp & Beyond 2026 will showcase the importance of artificial intelligence in the process industry, innovations in the forest industry, the future of the bioeconomy, and the critical early-stage challenges of industry startups. The event will be held on 15–16 April 2026 at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Centre.

The main stage program for the event has been published. The main stage program will be hosted and moderated by Anna StahleThe program for the event's second stage, Speaker's Corner, will be released later in March.

On Wednesday, April 15.4, the topics are artificial intelligence, innovations and factory projects.

The opening ceremony of the event will be held at 10 am and will feature opening remarks by the Minister of Climate and the Environment. Sari from Multala and from the chairman of the Finnish Association of Wood Processing Engineers From Pia Nilsson and the CEO From Antti Lindqvist.

Arauco R&D Director Sebastian Mandiola says in his speech at 13 p.m. Applied R&D: The engine behind next-generation pulp production about the importance of innovations in the future pulp industry, also touching on the gigantic Sucurio mill project, where Arauco is building a eucalyptus pulp mill in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Valmet will deliver the total automation solution for the pulp mill, which will become the world's largest in terms of capacity.

The development of wood-based innovations and improving efficiency will be discussed at 15 p.m. in the panel discussion Developing wood-based Innovations and improving efficiency: resources, obstacles and opportunities, where the panelists are Stora Enso's Director of Innovation, Research and Development Philip Hanefeld, CEO of VTT Kalle Härkki, A. Ahlström Chairman of the Board Peter Seligson and CEO of AFRY Linda Palsson.

On Thursday, April 16.4, the topics will be scaling innovations to the market and renewable solutions in the bioeconomy.

The second day of the event begins at 10 am with a presentation on renewable carbon solutions for the bioeconomy by UPM's Chief Technology Officer. Harald Dialer in the speech Shaping the bioeconomy with renewable carbon solutions.

In the panel discussion at 11 a.m. Overcoming the valley of death The panel will discuss the critical early-stage challenges of startups in the industry and how to overcome them. The panelists include Fiberwood's CEO Tage Johansson, founder and director of Lixea, professor Jason Hallett and founder of Voima Ventures Inka Mero.

In addition, an interesting speech by philosopher Frank Martela will be addressed to those who will shape the future of forestry at 13 p.m., and he will reflect on Happiness and Working Life – Impossible to Combine?, can happiness and working life go hand in hand? The talk opens up perspectives on meaningful work, well-being and building balance.
