Katariina Kemppainen, Senior Vice President, Group-level Research and Development at Metsä Group, has been elected as the Chair of the Board of the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC). The term is two years.
The election strengthens Metsä Group's position in the development of the bioeconomy in Europe. At the same time, the appointment highlights the role of the Finnish forest and bioeconomy in building a competitive bioeconomy in the EU. The chairmanship also enables Metsä Group to have greater opportunities to influence the direction of the industry.
"It is a great honour to serve in this role at a crucial time for European bio-based industries. I see BIC as a catalyst for systemic change towards a more sustainable and circular European bioeconomy, as BIC acts as a link between industry and the European Commission," says Kemppainen.
