The EUR 370 million investment in Mariestad is one of the largest investments in the tissue business in Europe, and includes a new tissue machine and three new converting lines. The investment will double the mill’s annual tissue capacity. Expanded local production and modernized technology will improve the availability of tissue in the region, reduce dependence on imports and ensure security of supply for everyday hygiene products.
The investment has created almost 100 new jobs at the mill, strengthening Metsä Tissue's local presence in Sweden and its commitment to serving customers throughout the Scandinavian region.
Fully automated high-bay warehouses and laser-guided automated guided vehicles ensure faster and safer handling of finished products and materials. This also improves delivery reliability through smooth logistics and real-time inventory management.
New paper machine technology improves energy efficiency and significantly reduces water consumption. This is a significant step forward in tissue production and enables lower emissions per ton produced.
The expansion focuses on virgin fiber-based production, which will increase the virgin fiber share of Metsä Tissue's Swedish mills to 80 percent. Virgin fiber is an optimal raw material for hygienic tissue papers due to its purity and high quality.
“Our investment combines cutting-edge technology with cutting-edge expertise. We are proud to be a pioneer in high-quality and resource-efficient tissue production. Local manufacturing helps ensure that the region has enough essential hygiene products for all situations,” says Metsä Tissue’s CEO. Sari Pajari-Sederholm.
