In recent years, ForestBioFacts has conquered new markets, including Brazil, Austria, Sweden and Germany.
"New customers include pulp manufacturers, paper and packaging manufacturers, for example. Many universities and colleges have also adopted Forest-BioFacts as their learning material; for example, a few colleges in Sweden have adopted it for students to use. For companies, ForestBioFacts is not only a teaching material but also a data bank and a tool for developing competence and training," says PI's development manager. Vera Hallikainen.
A year ago, Canadian paper and forest industry company Kruger acquired the rights to ForestBioFacts.
Optimization project leader Jacques Desrochers was looking for a good source of information to develop training materials and chose ForestBioFacts.
"ForestBioFacts' technical information is very good, well structured and easy to find. The learning environment is now used in our training and available to anyone interested for independent knowledge development."
The versatility of digital learning materials
The advantage of digital learning materials is that they are easy to update and up-to-date.
"In addition, functionalities can be developed that support learning and encourage and motivate people to learn more. Digitalization makes learning material more accessible and accessible. People's differences can be taken into account and different ways of using it can be offered to them," says Hallikainen.
The German PTS – Institut fur Fasern & Papier GmbH launched ForestBioFacts last summer. Head of Division Martin Zahel states that digital learning materials will increase and will be increasingly available alongside traditional forms of education.
“They speed up information access and can be shared between teams without restrictions.”
He says that one of the main reasons for choosing ForestBioFacts was its structured and reliable collection of information on pulp, paper, packaging and bio-based materials.
“We will use ForestBioFacts for research projects and our internal training. We will also use ForestBioFacts when we need an overview of a specific topic or when we need to check definitions and background information.”
Test what you've learned
You can now measure your own learning with self-administered tests after the thematic units.
“The first tests are already ready, and the test option will be added to all themes in the near future,” says Vera Hallikainen. After the test, you can verify your performance and what you have learned with a printable certificate, which you can show to your employer, for example, or attach to your CV. The certificates will be available later this year.
