Maintenance workshop

Sah-Ko's modern history as a family business dates back to 1955. At that time, the company Estama & Sutela, which was active in civil engineering, bought the Oulun Saha ja Kone company, which was founded in 1952 and whose operations included a sawmill and a supporting machine shop. The eventful past has also included, among other things, the sale of tractors and their conversion into forestry machines.

In the 1980s, engineering operations began to strengthen. Maintenance began to develop into a service that is active in many sectors, similar to what it is today.

"Dredging operations played a major role in hydraulic engineering in the 1990s. At the time, it provided good financial support. Since then, it has been abandoned as other operations have grown," says the marketing manager. Jukka Hakkilä.

The service offering, which has been refined over time, is extensive; Workshop services, metal sales including online stores, industrial piping and tanks, as well as installation and maintenance services. The operations are now led by Jukka Estama, a third-generation entrepreneur.

The company's customer base includes, among others, process industry operators such as steel, paper, pulp, mining and chemical industries. Customers also include a wide range of retailers, machine shops, product manufacturers and operators in the construction, civil engineering and infrastructure sectors. Private consumer customers are also served in metal sales and machine shop services.

“For forest industry customers, we act as a provider of maintenance services and a supplier of piping in factory renovations, for example,” Häkkilä states.

Sah-Ko is well-known locally and is striving to expand its reputation and customer base in other parts of Finland. However, times are tough at the moment. The pandemic and the Russian war of aggression have quieted the market.

“Yes, we are flying in the fog in this regard, the view is not far away,” Häkkilä describes the situation and continues, “However, our eyes are on the future and on long-term, determined development.”

Maintenance employs a wide range of people

The company's service offering brings continuity and a certain security. For example, maintenance services employ the company extensively, as Sah-Ko serves its customers in many different sectors.

“If our customer company needs, for example, maintenance of a wood washing roller, we can utilize several of our functions. We can also carry out the renovation in our own facilities if necessary. We receive the necessary materials from our metal sales warehouse and our machine shop and welding department then manufactures a new part and surface. Our maintenance team then goes to reinstall the roller.”

Sah-Ko Oy has two of its own product lines. My fatherbrand, the company designs and manufactures brushcutters and soil breakers.

HexxacleanThe company manufactures customized CIP washers for heat exchangers under the brand name. The process industry in general needs washers that can clean the heat exchangers they use on site without dismantling the heat exchanger – Clean-In-Place.
