“Trimble Forestry’s strength is reflected in the Connected Forest product portfolio. This comprehensive offering covers modules from forest asset management to forest operations, harvesting and transport all the way to mill reception. In addition, we are also involved with Finnish sawmillers in the actual sawmilling process – production planning, production and sales of further processed products. We smartly integrate raw material production and sawn products,” says Perttu Aunola, who is responsible for Trimble's forestry business in Europe.
Trimble Inc. is an international corporation listed on Nasdaq with approximately 12.000 employees. The forest industry is one of Trimble's business areas. Trimble Forestry operates in eight different countries with forest owners, entrepreneurs and wood buyers. Finland is Trimble's largest country in the forest industry. Trimble Forestry Europe Oy has almost a hundred forest industry software development experts in Finland.
Aunola names comprehensiveness as one of the group's strengths.
"Our solutions work across the entire value chain. Connected Forest covers software for real-time forestry and wood procurement. We are talking about Forest Operations Management as a solution area that the sawmill, paper and energy industries need in their raw material procurement. Trimble's software is targeted at different stages of the procurement process, such as purchasing, harvesting and transportation," says Aunola.
“In addition, Trimble Forestry has a Meka solution for managing the sawmill production chain from the log yard to finished products for end customers.”
Another significant area of activity is Industrial Analytics, which offers data analytics solutions. Trimble offers the Wedge tool for process industry production, which can be used to analyze process data. The software has deep roots in the Finnish wood processing industry. According to Trimble, the Wedge tool is already in use in over eighty countries and also in other industries besides the paper industry.
"It's a tool for the process owner that solves and develops the process, like artificial intelligence, to understand process deviations and determine cause-and-effect relationships," says Aunola.
The next step in Trimble Forestry's product development is the Connected Forest Mill concept.
"We are considering how to bring new technology and the entire offering to the sawmill side, where we already have Meka products for managing sawing processes and further processing. The focus of our product development is on data management, so that we can generate value for customers from increasingly large data sets. Closer integration of wood procurement and sawmilling is one of our paths. Together with our customers, we will create new generation solutions for the entire value chain," promises Trimble's Perttu Aunola.
What? Trimble Forestry builds solutions in both product development and data analytics that serve the entire forestry industry, from wood procurement to final processing.
Why? The focus of product development is on data management, so that increasingly large data sets can be used to generate value for customers.
