The global manufacturer of critical gear units for power transmission and industry is investing EUR 23 million in a new factory to develop competitiveness, shorten delivery times and expand its product portfolio.
"The new factory project is part of the David Brown Santasalo Group's investment program, which aims to focus investments on certain main factories. Finland is one of these, the second is the factory in England and the third is the factory in China. The Group has 26 locations around the world," says DB Santasalo's Country Director for Finland Pekka Leskinen.
“The Jyväskylä factory investment serves the Finnish wood processing industry in a key way, but a project of this type also supports the entire group globally.”
"We have extensive industry expertise and capabilities to maintain competitiveness. The Finnish unit's long-standing and good cooperation with machine builders, especially in the wood processing, mining and mineral industries, has also contributed to the Group's trust in Finland," Leskinen believes.
80 percent of DB Santasalo's Finnish deliveries are either directly exported or sent abroad with Finnish customers. There are a couple of hundred employees, 155 in Jyväskylä and the rest in Hyvinkää and Tornio.
The wood processing side's extensive product offering covers, among other things, the lime kiln environment, where large gear rings and drive gears are supplied. Roller gears and special gears are another large product area.
"We do a lot of field work supporting customers in installations, commissioning and problem solving. We take care of customers' rotating equipment. The Gear Watch remote monitoring we introduced to the market has been well received in the market as our latest innovation," says the Sales Director Harri Koivuvirta.
The new factory in Jyväskylä received an additional boost in March when the group's ownership changed. British private equity investor N4 Partners sold DB Santasalo to private American Stellex Capital Management LLP, which manages its investments in the United States and Europe.
"Under the new ownership, we will continue according to the current strategy. We achieved growth on the financial side, especially in aftermarket, which has been going well for a long time. We currently have the largest order book ever," says Pekka Leskinen.
The production of the David Brown Santasalo Group, a global manufacturer of critical gear drives for power transmission and industry, has moved from its factory in Rautpohja, Jyväskylä, to a new facility in the Eteläportti industrial area in Jyväskylä.
The investment in the new factory was made to develop competitiveness, shorten delivery times and expand the product portfolio.
