Formable plywood
Thanks to a new invention, plywood can now be bent into many shapes.
A new innovative method for manufacturing layered composite materials has been developed.
The manufacture of bent wooden structures becomes easier and the products are more durable and of more consistent quality than before.
“The technology is based on an adhesive film we developed, which allows plywood, for example, to be shaped after production. The new plywood enables stronger and higher-quality products with unique design properties,” says UPM Plywood Business Development Director Kaido Flower.
Versatile use options
The new technology’s applications are not limited to plywood. “There are countless uses for adhesive film. In the future, it can be used to bond minerals, glass, metals, textiles, and paper and cardboard. This is not so much a single product, but an invention that enables our customers to create new, more efficient production processes. It broadens the possibilities of using several materials while also promoting the principles of sustainable development,” Kukk explains.
