The energy efficiency puzzle challenges research

Maintaining the competitiveness of the Finnish forest industry requires new products and improved energy efficiency.

The challenge in energy efficiency research is the puzzle of many variables.

There are countless opportunities to improve energy efficiency. You can modify raw materials, refine components, fine-tune systems, and refine their processes – individually or in various combinations.

On the other hand, energy efficiency is rarely an intrinsic value. Most often, it develops as part of other innovations.

About three years ago, Metsäklusteri Oy started a research program focusing on energy resources and the development of energy-efficient resources. It has examined, among other things, the development of raw materials, pulp cooking methods and paper machine processes.
