Smart medicine packaging would bring savings

Packaging is constantly being developed to be more user-friendly. Watch a video about a smart medicine package that tracks when a patient has taken an individual pill.

Smart packaging conveys information that can be used in many ways. Stora Enso's smart medicine packaging is not yet in widespread use, but it could bring significant savings to healthcare. The packaging can be used to track the intake of each pill through a patient information system.

Information about taking medication is important, for example, when you want to be sure that a person receiving home care is following their treatment regimen.

"Time will tell whether smart packaging will become a significant business. For this to happen, we need to be able to show our customers that they will gain an image benefit, a cost advantage or a marketing advantage with smart packaging," says the project manager. Juha Maijala, who is responsible for projects developing smart packaging at Stora Enso.
